How to make a free personality quiz (with a complete example)
A step-by-step guide to building a personality quiz from scratch, setting up the results, linking every answer to a profile and sharing it. Includes a ready-made example and the real limits of the free plan.
A personality quiz has no right answers: every answer nudges the person toward a profile, and at the end they discover which one fits them best. "Which animal would you be?", "What is your study style?" and "Which character from the show are you?" are classic examples.
In this guide you will build one from scratch on QuestioFlux, with a complete example to copy and adapt. At the end you will find the real limits of the free plan, so you know up front what you can do without paying anything.
What to decide before opening the editor
A good personality quiz starts on paper, with three decisions:
- The possible results. Between 2 and 12 profiles. For a first quiz, 3 or 4 work well: few enough to tell them apart, enough that nobody feels the result was obvious.
- What each result says about the person. A short, positive and specific description. "You observe before you act and like to understand things deeply" beats "you are nice".
- The questions. Everyday situations work better than direct questions ("Are you brave?"). Between 6 and 10 questions is usually the sweet spot where the quiz is interesting without getting tiring.
Complete example: "Which animal matches you?"
Three results:
- Lion: brave, direct, likes to lead and to solve things on the spot.
- Owl: observant, calm, prefers to think before acting.
- Fox: curious and creative, always finds a different way to do things.
And five questions, with each option linked to a result:
| Question | Lion | Owl | Fox |
|---|---|---|---|
| What do you do on a free day? | A hike or a sport | A book or a documentary | A walk with no plan |
| In a group project, you... | Organize and split the tasks | Research and review everything | Bring the most unusual ideas |
| Facing a new problem, you... | Act right away and adjust along the way | Study the problem first | Try several ways out |
| Which quality do you admire most? | Courage | Wisdom | Creativity |
| Which gift would you love to get? | An extreme experience | A course | A surprise trip |
Notice that every question has exactly one option for each result. That keeps the quiz balanced: no profile shows up more often just because it had more options.
Step by step on QuestioFlux
1. Choose the "Personality quiz" type
Create your free account, click Create quiz and choose Personality quiz. People who take the quiz do not need an account: the link works for anyone.
2. Fill in the cover and the results
The cover holds the title, the description, the category, the language and whether the quiz is public or private. Right below it are the possible results: for each one, write the name and the description and, if you like, upload an image. The result image is the first thing people see at the end, so it is worth getting right.
Each result gets a color. That color later shows up on the options of your questions, so you can see at a glance which profile each answer leads to.
3. (Optional) Write the tie-break question
Sometimes the answers tie: in the example above, someone could finish with 2 Lion answers, 2 Owl answers and 1 Fox answer. For those cases there is the tie-break question, on the cover right below the results. You write a question and one option for each result. For example:
Where would you spend the weekend? Lion: "a mountain trail". Owl: "a quiet library". Fox: "a market full of new things".
It only shows up when there is a tie, and it only offers the options of the tied results. In the example, the person would only see "trail" and "library". If you leave the question blank, a tie becomes a combined result: the person sees the tied profiles together, like "Lion + Owl", with the description of each one.
4. Write the questions and link each option to a result
In the question editor, write the question and the options, and pick for each option which result it leads to. When you are done, save it as a draft to review calmly or finish it to publish.
Draft and visibility are separate things: a quiz can be finished and still private, open only to people who got the link. The quiz page shows a badge with its current state: Draft, Private or Public.
5. Share it
After finishing, you can:
- send the quiz link on any social network or messaging app;
- embed the quiz on your website or blog with the embed button on the quiz page;
- let people share their own result with the button shown at the end of the quiz.
How the result is calculated
QuestioFlux counts how many answers led to each result, and the most picked result wins. The order of the questions and options does not matter: the same answers, in any order, give the same result. There is also no timer or time limit in a personality quiz, so everyone answers at their own pace.
When there is a tie, what you chose in step 3 applies: the tie-break question or the combined result.
On the quiz page, the Results tab shows how many times each profile came up. Under Participants you see the list of people who took the quiz and each one's profile. People who prefer not to appear can hide their own activity in their account settings. Those participations still count toward the total; they just do not show up in the list.
Tips for a quiz people finish and share
- Write results people want to show off. People share results that say something good and specific about them.
- Avoid obvious options. If an option screams "I am the Lion", people pick it for the result, not for what they would really do.
- Keep it balanced. Each result should show up about the same number of times across the options.
- Use images on the results. They are free and make sharing much more eye-catching.
- Test before you promote it. Take your own quiz a few times, trying to reach each result.
